My Collections – mini collection in a tin.

This vintage chocolate tin has accumulated stuff I have collected and once it was full, I left it full of treasure. When I was a kid I used to collect cool things in a wooden box and I loved to look through it.  This reminds me of that as I don’t take anything out or add anything but I do like to look through the tin every so often. There is a pile of postcards ranging from 1912 to the 1970’s, some blank rectangles of cardstock, crystal glass necklaces, a selection of spelling flashcards, a beautiful pink decanter or bottle stop, a heap of old cotton reels, a ball of pink nylon and a pack of playing cards. These are the snapshots of Llangollen which is a town in Wales where I used to go on holiday with my family as a kid. I think these photos would be from the 1920’s or 30’s as they were taken on the No. 2 Brownie camera.  I love old photos and these are some of the first …

Ten things to do with a vintage typewriter.

  1. Use it as decoration. 2. Type some letters to some friends. 3. Type over a vintage photo, a poem or a letter to the people in the photo. 4. Type random words, cut them up and make a poem. 5. Take photos of it (they are so stylish even the beige ones are cool). 6. Learn to type properly or at least how your old typewriter works (this is on my list!). 7.  Start that book, type that novel. 8. Write a love letter. 9. Type a joke. 10. Type on some fancy paper, find some vintage typing paper and type on that. Yes, I just got a lovely new/old typewriter and as I wait for a new ribbon for it, I am having all the ideas of things I can do and write with it! Happy Wednesday x SaveSave

‘I like’ Friday, the secondhand edition

I love me an estate sale, a yard sale or a trip to Goodwill or a charity shop.  Hunting down the bargains then maybe a spot of research on my latest find when I get home. Last weekend I went to a local estate sale in the snow!  Yes, I am that keen to go and explore and maybe find a treasure or two.  I didn’t find a huge amount, mainly, between you and me, because it was a bit expensive. I thought I would share what I did get. This was the first thing I picked up, I love the graphics on the box and I needed a brayer to use with my new gelli plate. It is clean and has no chips or dings. When I picked these up, I thought they would be great to use as an art journal base, maybe even alter each card to make a new set of art journaled cards.  I am not sure I can bring myself to paint on them though. These two books are …

‘I like’ Fridays. The Happy Edition.

Things that have made me happy this week are- Making green tomato pickles. That my kids like the pickles I have already made. Rock cakes. Cutting the branches into a stick pile in the garden. Watching my last four aubergines grow. Playing with Zentangle and finding cool posts like this one from Craftwhack. Looking forward to the November Tinkerlab sketching challenge. Halloween treats from Grandma in England (chocolate eyeballs!). Successful school Halloween parties. Scoring some great bargains at Goodwill, in this weeks haul, we got a 1960’s baby blue typewriter (which was very heavy to carry home!), some milk glass mugs and a ‘Tornado’ maker! Playing Cluedo with the kids. Watching the Great British Baking Show on PBS. The chilly weather and crunchy leaves. Power Yoga at Core 3 Fitness. What has been making you happy?  Lots of things I hope. I have included this week’s Through The Lens Thursday in today’s post as I missed it yesterday (oopsie).  This week’s prompt is ‘Happy’, pop over to Greta’s blog to see her photos too.  She …

Through The Lens Thursday #30 Vintage

I just couldn’t decide what to photo for this week’s Through the Lens Thursday. Vintage covers most things I own! So, I decided to work with an old cassette player and a couple of tapes for good measure. I got this player at an estate sale and it needs some work to get it to play properly again. It plays tapes, but they play very slowly, so that it sounds like a drunkard! Remember when a tape got jammed or the player ran out of battery? That is how this baby plays. I never owned a tape player when I was a teen and listening to music on cassettes, I either used the main stereo in the front room (much to my family’s joy I am sure!) or I monopolized the car tape player wherever we went. It was only when I went off to college that I got my very own portable tape player. Yay for the 80’s and early 90’s. To be honest though, I really don’t consider tapes and the relevant playing …

Six Word Saturday

First Six Word Saturday of 2015! ‘Finding Vintage Treasure is the Best’ Fancy joining in?  I want to make a Six Word Saturday every week and post here and in Instagram using the hashtag #SixWordSaturday.   I would love to see what you come up with. There are lots of apps to add words to photos and some which don’t even need a photo, they have lots of backgrounds you can use, like the ‘A Beautiful Mess’ app and ‘Word Swag’ which both have backgrounds and text options.  I like to use ‘Over’ app which has lovely fonts and artwork in the form of doodles and frames which make for a really special image.  Keep it as simple or busy as you like. Yay!  Happy Weekend x
