Through The Lens Thursday 20. Empty.

Firstly, let me say how much I am enjoying Through The Lens Thursday and how much I am learning.  So, thanks to Greta at GFunkified and Alison at Writing Wishing who dreamt the whole thing up with a prompt for every week. When I first switched my camera to manual a few months I was almost positive that I would soon be back to auto as I had less than no idea what all the numbers meant and which to use for any given photo situation.  I was convinced I would be missing great shots left, right and centre because one or all of my numbers would be wrong and my photo would be dark, out of focus or both! Well, here I am and I have not gone back to auto and even better, I can’t believe I didn’t make the effort years ago to use manual.  Yes, it is confusing (still), and I thank the photography fairies everyday that I can take a ton of photos of the same thing and delete the …

Through The Lens Thursday 19. Dream.

Dream.  A photograph of a dream?  Following a dream?  Dreaming?  What to take? Then, on the walk back from school, I spotted a circle of mushrooms on the path through the woods. Don’t we all dream there will be a crowd of fairies in every ring of mushrooms or toadstools we see?  I do! Alas, if there were any fairies present here, I missed them.  I had to clear away a few leaves and get down almost on the ground to get this shot, so I feel certain I would have spotted any. I know, I know, I was in the middle of the woods crouched on the ground photographing mushrooms!  All the time hoping that no-one would walk by!! Do you take photos all over the place? Are you bothered if anyone thinks you are a nut? I am pretty self conscious to be honest and looking a fool is not my top priority. Having said that, if I want the picture, I can usually summon up some courage from somewhere.  So there I …

Through The Lens Thursday 18. 3 Things

This year I am participating in Through The Lens Thursday which is a project thought up by Alison of Writing Wishing and Greta of GFunkified.  Every week we take a photo using the camera on manual setting, so that we learn lots of new camera and photo taking things through the year of weekly prompts. This week’s prompt is ‘3 Things’.  I found the abandoned, hatched egg this morning and the sycamore seeds, and I added the dandelion clock once I had put the ‘things’ together.  I was happy that the dandelion didn’t shed all of it’s seeds immediately and let me get a photo. A little nature collection. Do you pick up stuff as you walk?  I usually just photo interesting things as I see them and leave them, but today I needed my 3 things,  so I did some gathering!

Through The Lens Thursday 17. Water

It is Through the Lens Thursday today and the prompt is ‘Water’.  It is supposed to rain later today which I was going to wait for, but in the meantime I popped down to the creek to see what I could see. I wandered around for a few minutes checking out the rather low flowing water.  I  snapped some reflections and tried to work out how to get the water in focus as it danced about infront of me (one of the reasons I love this challenge, having to figure out new settings and understand my camera better). As I turned to walk back along the edge of the water, a flower seedhead floated down towards me and it was the prettiest thing gently gliding along in the water. It soon came to rest next to a rock letting me get a photo before it moved on down the creek. The sun was bobbing about in the water under the bridge (last photo), so I took his picture. I am sure I will still …

Through The Lens Thursday 16. Together

I am hiding out in the library sitting on a nice squishy chair with a little round table to write on and keep the books I have already chosen to check out. We are fully into the Spiderwick Chronicles, so I have book 2 ‘The Seeing Stone’ and a couple of Tony DiTerlizzi books to have a look at too. My house is full of the noise of a bathroom being re-done – drilling, crashing and some swearing. So here I am in the lovely library putting together my Through The Lens Thursday post. This week was ‘Together’, and as I gathered my mid morning frothy coffee equipment, I thought they were the perfect ‘together’. I make the coffee in a Chemex, froth up the milk in my metal frother thingy and serve it in my favourite coffee cup. Ta da! Do you have specific mugs or cups for tea or coffee? I totally do, some of my mugs I would never drink tea from and some would never contain coffee! For instance, I would …
