I tried Suminagashi and it is brilliant!

I have tried ink on water marbling and it was ok but nothing spectacular, quite pale colours and I didn’t get great results.  Of course I most likely used the wrong ink and almost certainly an inefficient technique, but in the back of my mind I wanted to have another go as I love the effects of marbled paper. I saw a suminagashi class on Skillshare and it looked doable as I had all of the ingredients so I gave it a go. Tomoe River paper Top Strathmore mixed media, bottom Stonehenge warm white. Strathmore mixed media (front) Strathmore mixed media paper (back). I like that this technique is fairly unpredictable but not totally. Having said that, the final photo is the back of one of the prints and I really like how the ink has swished onto the back of the paper and created a very unpredictable effect. I used Strathmore mixed media paper which was very white and smooth, Stonehenge warm white paper with a slight texture and Tomoe River paper which is …

‘I Like’ Friday. The planting, reading, sketching and eating edition

Lots of things to like this week. Flowers starting to bloom on the trees being a big thing to like.  Here are some more things to like this fine Friday. This soup from Meet Me At Mikes looks like an essential.  I just need to find fresh tumeric which I have never used before, I have only had dealings with the bright yellow powder. I bought this book called Urban Watercolor Sketching by Felix Scheinberger and it is gorgeous as well as full of information.  More guidance than instruction and tons of inspiration. At last I have managed to read a book this year and now I am on my second.  This one is a great read, it is All the Birds in the Sky by Charlie Jane Anders.  It  is a little bit magic and a little bit science. These DIY affirmation cards look so lovely, I want to have a go at making a deck for myself. After taking this  Sketching class at Skillshare, I am feeling a little more confident in my outdoor …

Weekly Photos 36/52

1. We found a whole dollar in the creek! So we gave it a rinse and hung it out to dry. 2. My parsley is a pot of stalks today, because there were five Eastern Black Swallowtail caterpillars munching away at it all week, there are only two caterpillars left today, I wonder if they will turn into butterflies? I hope so. 3. Mushroom! I love spotting the mushrooms starting to pop up in our woods and this one has a little hole in the roof, I assume so the fairies can let the smoke out from their fireplace! 4. I have been trying to sketch objects more so that I get better at drawing. I watched a repeating pattern class on Skillshare, so I made a little pattern tile which repeats lemons! 5. I spotted this jumping little fella on the Hosta plant this week, I was happy that he sat still while I grabbed my phone and snapped a picture. 6. This weekend we went to the St Louis Swap Meet and snagged …
