‘I Like’ Friday – Treasures from 1930’s and 1940’s National Geographic Magazines.

I recently had the good fortune to come across a pile of National Geographic from the 1930’s to the 1950’s and as I rifled through them,  I came across some wonderful images along with some equally wonderful captions. They are totally of their time and I love the fashions, the optimism, the language of the time. The man carrying the giraffe and the policeman about to go headfirst into the Thames are my favorites!   Old magazines are so interesting to look through as well as wonderful images.  These National Geographics swept me back in time. Happy Friday x

‘I Like’ Fridays

Today brings Spring to the Western hemisphere along with a solar eclipse and a Supermoon tonight.  Phew, quite the celestial action! I hope I captured the atmosphere in my coffee and doughnut photo – Supermoon coffee and eclipse doughnut! So what are we liking this week? I got a couple of new t shirts and a dress from Uniqlo which I love.  The ones I got are here, here and here. This new US magazine, Womankind, looks like a good read.  I have a copy which I have yet to open!  As with most of my favourite mags, this one originated in Australia. Converse shoes are a current favourite in our house, I just got a pair of red lowtops and my youngest got a pair of black hightops and they are the same size!  Yay that means I can borrow my son’s shoes.  There is something I never thought I would say! My Wild Unknown tarot cards might make an appearance today as we are under such an amazing trifecta of natural occurrences. They …

‘I like’ Fridays

Here are some things I have been reading on the interweb this week, I hope you like them. There is a great post here at She Who Rambles  about faraway family which I could relate to as all of my wonderful family are in the UK.  We need a portal to whizz us all around the world for a cup of tea and a biscuit whenever we need!  If you are working on such a device, please let me have a go first. Got boys in your house?  Or do you just fancy making some cool crafty things?  All your needs are catered in this piece by Tiny Rotten Peanuts.  I want to make the vellum igloo, the Fart Noise Maker and a handful of dollar jet fighters if you want to help me. That Summer Feeling carries on the adventures of Quinoa and her ‘life journey’, I don’t miss a week and nor should you. I found Humblebee and Me which is full of DIY beauty ideas and she is so generous with her …

‘I like’ Fridays.

This week there are lots of things to like, especially that the sun is out and the snow is melting, we are looking at Springlike temperatures over the weekend and into next week!  Here are some of the things I have been liking  – The Girl on the Train by Paula Hawkins.  This is a book I want to keep picking up even just to snatch a page here and there.  A page turner for sure! Watercolour painting.  I haven’t painted in years, so I treated myself to some brushes and paints and I am about to embark on the watercolour class over at Creative Bug.  I have lots of ideas, now I just need to get the brush on the paper!  I think watercolour painting is so pretty, colours all seem to look beautiful, I can’t wait to get started. Lettering.  My ongoing love for hand lettering seems to get more fired up every day.  The March ‘Girl Fifteen Letters‘ challenge is going well, we are up to the letter F already.  Lots of …

‘I like’ Fridays. Yoga Special

This week I am going to dedicate ‘I like’ Friday’s post to yoga, because I like yoga. I really shouldn’t like it because I am more of a cardio kinda gal who doesn’t feel like the exercise was even worth it unless I am sweaty and stinky by the end. This is probably why after all these years I am still terrible at yoga. I always need to pee about half way through the class. Really badly. By the last ‘corpse’ pose, you know the one where you are suppose to relax (not nap) and let thoughts come and then go. The very same pose where I decide which bathroom is nearest and whether I have the ingredients to make a green chili tonight (just down the corridor and yes, in case you are interested). My hips complain and creak even when we sit in Easy pose, sitting legs crossed is neither comfortable nor easy for my cranky hips. No amount of folded blankets help either, unless I am encased in them, that might …

‘I like’ Fridays.

This week I am liking lots of things, the arctic weather we are having is not one of them! Check out this fab post about making your very own font from Tiny Rotten Peanuts.  I am going to give this a go this weekend. There are some good t shirts for Red Nose Day this year, my Mum is sending me the Matthew Williamson ‘Do my Feathers Look Big in This?’  one, because I am spoiled! I am still having a blast with the Tinkersketch challenge, I might just finish the month! There is a plan in my brain to do my own personal challenge through March – a hand lettering practice.  You should join in too!  More info next week (when I have figured it out…) The book I am reading is a really good one – Ella and Otto and Russell and James by Emma Hooper. I have been obsessively making this bread which just needs throwing together the night before.  Perfect for weekend breakfast. What have you been liking this week?  Lots …

‘I like’ Fridays

Well this week has seen all sorts of decisions and new things for me, all good things!  We have seen snow and sun and ice in all kinds of order and the weekend is supposed to be sunny and warm so we are looking forward to that. I have been drawing and painting and reading and catching the train and borrowing library books.  I hope you have had a good week and are having a happy Friday. Here are a few things I am liking today – The new Jamie Oliver magazine which I bought today at the international newsagent nearby, I am sure I am at least one issue behind, but I get them eventually! Magma sketchbooks are so gorgeous to look at and they make sketchbooks for specific areas like fashion or idea generation. Home made scented balms and solid perfume, I am looking into the best ‘recipe’ and playing with scent combinations!  So fun! Our local Goodwill store, I got a lovely little vintage pyrex bowl and I found the boys a Nerf …
