April photo a day 2014

April was a month of planting and digging and mowing it seems.  I started to read The Goldfinch by Donna Tartt which I am enjoying and will most likely finish sometime in June! We started to re-do the bathroom and found some cool old wallpaper and the original floor tiles.  Easter hopped by and welcomed Spring and all things new and growing.  I made hot cross buns and Simnel cake which is all long gone. Sunflowers seeds were planted on Earth Day and we are watching them peek through the soil and grow at breakneck speed. I started to run again after about a year of not really running, I am looking at a half marathon in October, so there is some incentive to keep pounding the pavement. April was also another month of Fat Mum Slim’s Photo a Day, so here are mine. 1. Something purple. 2. In my hand.  I made a little clutch bag in linen fabric with some machine embroidery on the front. 3. Shapes.  In the new rain barrel. 4. …

March 2014 Photo a Day

So begins the March Photo a Day challenge round up!  Yellow is one of my favourite colours, so a great start. March saw snow and snow days off school, we had a few trips out to local State Parks and the zoo which is always a treat. I read ‘The Hive’ by Gill Hornby and laughed all the way through it. Being a Brit living in the US, it always a joy to find such an ‘English’ book. None of the colloquial language had been edited and I loved all of it!  Now what to read? I think I am going to give ‘The Goldfinch’ by Donna Tartt a go. Have you read it? Any recommendations? The garlic is growing nicely in the raised beds and I have planted some Basil, Coriander/Cilantro and Ancho chili pepper seeds in pots, so we can’t wait to see them start to shoot up. And of course I took a photo every day following the prompts provided by Chantelle of Fat Mum Slim. Thanks Chantelle!  1. Yellow  2. Something …

September 2013 photo a day

It’s nearly nearly nearly October which surely means we are all gathering pumpkins and making apple pies with freshly picked apples.  You know, with the apples you picked at the apple orchard and ended up with a quadrillion pounds even though you told everyone to only pick a few! I haven’t been apple picking yet, but I am sure we will and I am also sure we will bring home the required quadrillion pounds of apples! In the meantime, September whizzed by and brought us a few cool mornings and plenty of afternoon sunshine and here are the photos I took this month.  I have been playing with Flipagram too, so the photos are also all on Instagram zipping past your eyes in the new video format.  I am @catseatdogsmakes on Instagram, go and see what you think. July 2013 ‘photo a day’

July was a lovely weather month, it started off cool and ended cool with a few hot days in the middle.  Very nice. During July we completed reading clubs at the library, saw Despicable Me 2, visited some local parks and made lots of muffins! The future king was born and has my Grandad’s name – George. I made lots of notes about things to make when the boys go back to school, new jewels and scarves for the fall season. Here are the photos from July as usual using Fat Mum Slim’s prompts.  Here are the August prompts if you want to join in. Day 1. Ten on the 10th

I am so happy it isn’t raining today for ten on the 10th photos. I was beginning to think it was going to be rainy on the 10th of every month!  So in the monthly tradition of taking ten photos on the 10th day, here are ten photos.  All taken on the iPhone 4. I literally stopped and turned around to get a photo of this dew soaked leaf.   A flower spotted on the way into the Y this morning.   Bags all ready for the Mother’s Day Plant sale at school.  The kids all get a plant to give to their Mama and the opportunity to buy plants and hanging baskets.   We pass this Lilac bush every day and it smells divine! Look at all those teeny tiny flowers.  Beautiful. I was taking a photo for my daily prompt and accidently got my feet and quite liked it!  The effects are provided by Hipstamatic.  New Saltwater sandals!  Love ’em, super comfy.   ‘Stars’  was the ‘photo of the day’.  These are some …
